Commentators and pundits have expressed considerable concern about medical misinformation as a novel force influencing patients and yet the threat of misinformation has been with us for a long time. What can we learn from historical struggles with false and misleading information about health and medicine? How might we best address misinformation in interactions with patients? In this webinar, we will discuss how we should conceptualize misinformation as a phenomenon and what healthcare professionals can do about it.
LEARNER OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe historical examples of medical misinformation
- Assess relationships between health misinformation exposure and
health disparities - Define practical steps clinicians can take to mitigate medical misinformation through recent initiatives, including the National Forum on Best Practices to Address Health Misinformation
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
